Re:Canyons - 2006/08/08 09:41 Was at Atlantis, North Atlantis, then pushed East to Veatch....same thing at all....Yellowfin, Longfin and some attacks from Marlin (blue/white) not positive which one. A long run for a so so trip...if you got the doe for the fuel and don't mind running out there, there is fish, but not what you expect condidering the time and money it takes to get out there...

Re:Canyons - 2006/08/10 11:53 Took off from Noank on 8/5, heading due S off on Montauk. ~20nm N of The Dip, saw fish crashing. drop in 8 lines. ~30min, hooked into a 50lb yellow. trolled the rest of the way to the dip, caught 3 more yellow in the 30-50lb range. approached the dip towards sunset, perfect time for the big eye, but nothing. marking fish S of the dip. decided to set up our drift just off the 60 boats working the edge. which, btw, looked like an island in the middle of the canyons...crazy!! began chunking butterfish after sunset. nothing on the overnight bite. marking fish from 30' down to 150'. had glow sticks down for swords, nothing. had other baits up and down the water column...not even a tap. pods of porpoises were our friends all night long. anyone see those pods under the moon? awesome sight!!! along with marking fish, marking tons of bait, which probably made the fish more picky and not choosing our baits...damn it! oh well. sunrise began our troll. ~20 min into the troll, triple header brought in 3 long fin, all boated. 20-30lb range. picked up two more yellows (40-50lb range) after that, then steamed back in. boat total = 6 yellow 3 long fin.

hoping the bite stays hot. seems like we're making another run out there this weekend. Are the fish still in the dip? where did they move to???

where are the big eyes?!?!?!

Re:Canyons - 2006/08/15 16:56 fished the tails on 8/12-8/13. 5 yft, 3 mahi on the troll. yft ~30lb, mahi, small. nothing on the overnight bite. one boat we were in contact with had 2 ~75lb yft, but he was east of where we where. heading out in 2 weeks. until then...

Re:Canyons - 2006/08/17 11:30 Hey, where is the DIP?? It's been getting a lot of talk lately but I've never fished it. Not looking for specific Lat/Lon (but if you got it great) just a general area and I can find it on my charts. Is it marked???
Thanks

Re:Canyons - 2006/08/17 14:38 yes, it's on the charts. it's almost due south off of montauk. i have ~ 80 miles using maptech software, but i don't think that is accurate. i thought it was closer in. anyways, an ~lon/lat N39 54.838 W71 42.066. When looking at a chart, you'll see distinctive contour lines around 500'
