Re:tuna tips - 2006/10/05 11:19 First question, where are you fishing? A lot depends on how you fish a specific area, mostly because of the bait that is available in that area for you to try and match....

Re:tuna tips - 2006/10/05 19:21 dave , i am going on the yank capts to the canyons.someone told me i should'nt try the daisy chain it being my first tuna trip.from reading reports from past trips,it seems my best bet is jigging & live bait. the reports say they have been using hammered diamond jigs, but i can't seem to locate any? any input you could give me would be appreciated. thanks,whitechin1.

Re:tuna tips - 2006/10/06 16:02 i use green daisy chains - spreader bars - rigged bally jets off the flat when fishing the canyons...usually fishing the dip or the tails.

Re:tuna tips - 2006/10/07 09:03 Daisey Chains are excellent rigs, however, I deploy them more for billfish rather than tuna. That doesn't mean they won't work when Tuna fishing, but I think of them more as a billfish bait.
If your going to the canyons, green is a solid color and I always begin there and adjust if needed. I use green splash bars (squid bars with splash birds on them) with either a rainbow green machine stinger, green green machine or variations of black for stingers. This has ALWAYS proven to work well. If I don't run bars (such as in tournaments) my spread consists of all single lures. Moldcraft, Black Barts (tuna candy are awesome baits) and Pakula lures make up the spread. Some have ballyhoo on them, others don't, and I also run naked bally hoo (ballyhoo without lures on them). Either of these spreads will entice Yellofin, Albacore, Big Eye....
Hope this helps, good luck.
